BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Trump designates EEOC commissioner as acting chair

President Donald Trump has named EEOC Commissioner Victoria A. Lipnic, who was nominated by former President Barack Obama in 2010, as the agency’s acting chair, the EEOC said Wednesday.

Ms. Lipnic was confirmed by the Senate initially for a term that ended in July 2015, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in its statement. The former president nominated her for a second term ending July 1, 2020, and she was confirmed by the Senate in November 2015.

The statement did not reveal when a permanent chair would be appointed.

There has been speculation as to what direction the agency will take with President Trump’s assumption of office. Meanwhile, actions the EEOC has taken in January includes filing litigation that focuses on the issues of same-sex harassment, discrimination against an employee with an intellectual disability and Hispanic-preference hiring.

On Wednesday, the agency also announced a $4.25 million settlement with Marion, Illinois-based Mach Mining L.L.C. of litigation concerning its hiring practices of women.
