BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Crump Insurance uses cloud technology on insurance portal

Roseland, N.J.-based Crump Insurance Services Inc. turned to cloud-based technology when it launched its portal for excess and surplus lines insurance last year.

The company said the portal, made with technology from New York-based Seapass Solutions Inc. and among the first of its kind for E&S lines, is intended to enable retail agents to receive multiple indications from a single submission in real time.

Wayne Carter, executive vp of Crump Professional Programs, said the company made a conscious effort to make the portal as simple as possible for agents.

The agent first sends an online submission through either online quoting hub Insurance Noodle or through BOLT Insurance Agency, the marketing arm of Business Owners Liability Team L.L.C. If the submission is declined by standard markets, it then is submitted automatically online to Crump's portal for an excess and surplus quote.

“If you are an agent and have been in the business for a while, it's incredibly intuitive,” Mr. Carter said.

Moreover, the cloud-based portal presents a unified, modern interface to agents while enabling insurers to leverage their existing investments in core systems, Mr. Carter said.

“The whole idea was to reach into existing rating systems of carriers and pull data elements needed for a quote back to the portal, so we are not trying to recreate the wheel,” Mr. Carter said.
