OFF BEAT: Ex-Van Halen wife won't face the music for using famous name

The enterprising ex-wife of a famous drummer has struck a deal enabling her to keep using her famous last name for commercial purposes as long as she steers clear of the music business.
Kelly Van Halen, who was formerly married to Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen, settled out of court this week with ELVH Inc., a company owned by the band that oversees its trademarks and merchandising efforts. The legal eruption began in 2013, when ELVH sued Ms. Van Halen for trademark infringement after she attempted use her last name on her construction and interior design company.
A lawyer for the band says the case has been “amicably resolved.” No word yet if the band’s newfound spirit of amity extends to former singer Sammy Hagar.
