The insurance industry has launched an initiative to attract millennials to the profession.
The effort — called MyPath — was formally unveiled during a Monday conference call with the The Institutes, the operating name of the Malvern, Pennsylvania-based Insurance Institute of America, and the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters. It is a collaborative insurance and risk management initiative coordinated by The Institutes that “is dedicated to educating students and young professionals about the insurance industry and its limitless career opportunities,” according to an information sheet released Monday.
“Attracting talent to this industry has been a common concern,” said Peter Miller, president and CEO of The Institutes, during the conference call, noting that the insurance industry will be hit by a wave of retirements in the next decade.
But so-called millennials “really don't know much about this industry,” he said. As a result, MyPath has created a website that contains information about the industry and such as matters as internships.
The effort also will feature an advertising campaign to attract new talent, said Mr. Miller.
With a wave of baby boomers about to retire, the insurance industry will soon face a workforce shortage. In the latest episode of Business Insurance In Focus, Assistant Managing Editor Aranya Tomseth finds out what companies are doing to recruit fresh, young talent.
