Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, star of MTV’s hit TV show Jersey Shore, has found himself in a precarious situation after being accused of failing to pay taxes on $8.9 million in earnings.
Mr. Sorrentino and his brother, Marc Sorrentino, have been charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States and filing false tax returns from 2010 to 2012, according to a statement Wednesday from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark, New Jersey.
Messrs. Sorrentino “filed false tax returns that incorrectly reported millions made from promotions and appearances,” said U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman, in the statement. “The brothers allegedly also claimed costly clothes and cars as business expenses and funneled company money into personal accounts.”
The brothers are expected to be arraigned in New Jersey federal court on Oct. 6, the attorney’s office said.
