Doctors profession survey

Only 12% of doctors are likely to recommend that people join their profession, according to a survey.

Also, 77% said their job enjoyment had dropped in the past five years, according to the poll, conducted by medical malpractice insurer The Doctors Co.

Physicians’ biggest concerns is misinformation on social media, with 64% citing it as their biggest challenge, and the high cost of health care, cited by 62%.

Forty-three percent are concerned about “nuclear” jury verdicts, or those higher than $10 million.

Helping patients recover is the most rewarding part of the job for 70%, according to the survey.

The Doctors Co. got responses from 368 doctors in the survey, conducted in December and January. The timeframe was intentionally short “as we were interested in physician sentiment following a challenging year in health care,” a spokeswoman said in an email.

Of the respondents, 97% were baby boomers, millennials or Gen Xers, and 56% were in primary care or internal medicine.
