Claims paid for Japan earthquake rise by 22% to $481 million

Data released by the General Insurance Association of Japan showed that claims paid for the 7.5-magnitude earthquake, which struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture of Japan on New Year’s Day, have increased by around 22% to 74.4 billion Japanese yen ($481 million), Reinsurance News Reported. The earthquake caused extensive damage around and south of the epicentre, impacting the prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata, Toyama, and Fukui.
