Pakistan declares emergency in southwest amid heavy rains, floods

Pakistani authorities declared a state of emergency in the country’s southwest region on April 15, as heavy rains and lightning claim the lives of at least 49 people across the country, Business Standard reported. Torrential rains have also hit the capital Islamabad, while also flooding streets in the northwestern city of Peshawar and in Quetta.
