HSA plan enrollment reduces outpatient services use: Study

Enrollment in health savings account plans does not affect overall healthcare spending but reduces the use of outpatient services, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute, Healthpayer Intelligence reports. The study found mixed effects on health care use, with HSA plan members having more inpatient admissions and hospital days but fewer emergency department visits and specialist visits compared to those in preferred provider organizations.
