Ridesharing company Uber Technologies, Inc. will pay $271.8 million Australian ($178 million) to settle a lawsuit brought by Australian taxi operators and drivers, who say the firm's entry into the country resulted in financial losses for them, Reuters reported. Maurice Blackburn Lawyers said that the class action suit, filed in 2019 on behalf of more than 8,000 taxi and hire car owners and drivers, accused Uber of breaking laws requiring taxis and hire cars to be licensed.
