Everest Insurance hires former Berkshire Hathaway exec as global CUO

Everest Insurance, the insurance division of Everest Re Group Ltd., said Thursday it has hired former Berkshire Hathaway Inc. reinsurance executive Mark Maritzen as global chief underwriting officer.

New York-based Mr. Maritzen reports to Mike Karmilowicz, president and CEO of Everest Insurance, and replaces Mike Mulray, who was recently named president of North America insurance at Everest Re.

Mr. Maritzen was previously vice president of reinsurance at Berkshire Hathaway, and prior to that served as chief underwriting officer for property North America at American International Group Inc.
