Meta fined $1.3 billion over data privacy violations

The European Data Protection Board has imposed a fine of €1.2 billion ($1.29 billion) on Meta Platforms Inc. for breaching the European Union’s privacy laws by transferring data of the users of its social media platform Facebook to U.S. servers, CNN reported. The fine is the largest ever levied under the General Data Protection Regulation. The regulator has also ordered the firm to cease the processing of personal data of European users in the U.S. within six months.
