To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Joan Schmit, Theresa Severson take top honors at RIMS

Joan Schmit, professor of risk management and insurance at the University of Madison-Wisconsin, and Theresa Severson, vice president, insurance and risk, Kite Realty Group Trust, received the most prestigious awards during the awards luncheon at Riskworld on Monday.

Ms. Schmit was presented with the Harry and Dorothy Goodell Award by the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. The award recognizes an individual who has furthered the goal of the organization and the risk management discipline.

Ms. Severson was named Risk Manager of the Year for her work in risk management, including during the process of her company’s merger. She is credited with “navigating her organization through a wildly complex risk landscape while directly impacting growth and opportunity for her company,” said Jennifer Santiago, president of RIMS, during the awards presentation.

Other awards and winners included:

  • Risk Management Honor Roll: Ann Marie Bitta, director of global risk management at Abbot Laboratories.
  • Rising Star Award: Emily Bloedel, manager, contracts and legal affairs, at Merrick & Co. and president of the RIMS Rocky Mountain chapter.
  • Risk Management Hall of Fame: retired risk managers Jim Green and Roger Andrews, and the late Dan Kugler.
  • Ron Judd Heart of RIMS award: Judy Silverman, a retired risk manager.
  • Chapter of the Year: Upstate New York Chapter.
  • Enhancing Chapter Outcomes award: the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter, the Rocky Mountain Chapter, the Chicago Chapter and the Saskatchewan Chapter. 

RIMS also announced that next year it will introduce an award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which will be presented at 2024 Riskworld in San Diego.
