Thierry Breton, European commissioner for the Internal Market, said that 19 major online platforms and search engines, including Twitter, Inc., Meta Platforms, Inc.’s Facebook and Instagram, Alphabet Inc.’s YouTube, will face tough levels of scrutiny under new content moderation rules, reported. According to the Digital Services Act, they will be responsible for taking down illegal activity and will prepare annual risk assessment reports to detail how they are handling harmful content. Companies that do not comply risk a fine of as much as 6% of annual revenue or a potential ban.
