House overrides governor veto on provider access bill

The North Dakota State House on April 17 overrode Gov. Doug Burgum’s veto of House Bill 1416, which would prohibit health insurers that are part of an integrated delivery network from excluding providers that are willing and qualified from their panel of participating providers, reports My Dakotan. The governor explained his veto saying there is only one insurer that meets the definition of integrated health plan in the state. He said targeting that insurer by requiring it to open its provider network “directly risks increasing health insurance costs for over 13,000 North Dakotans.”
