According to early estimates from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the massive earthquakes that struck Turkey on Feb. 6 caused $5.1 billion in losses to the nation’s food sector, mainly due to reduced availability and higher prices due to crop losses, CIPS reported. Apart from causing extensive damage to the livestock, aquaculture and fisheries sector, the quakes also caused $1.3 billion in damages to agricultural infrastructure and storage facilities.
