States urge action to protect preventive care coverage after ACA rulingPosted On: Apr. 5, 2023 10:16 AM CST
Leaders in California and Michigan are urging lawmakers to take action to codify preventive care coverage after a Texas judge struck down some requirements for payers to cover preventive services at no cost to members under the Affordable Care Act, reports Becker’s Payer Issues. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer directed the state's insurance and financial services department to issue guidance about which preventive services are affected by the decision and develop recommendations for actions the state can take to maintain preventive care coverage, the report says. In California, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara is co-sponsoring legislation to strengthen the state's existing preventive care coverage requirements for health plans.
