School district to raise premiums 4% to cover funding deficit

Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, School System teachers and retirees will likely see their health insurance premiums increase in July to offset a projected 3.2% deficit that its self-funded insurance program is facing, reports the Acadiana Advocate. The Employee/Retiree Insurance Advisory Committee recommended to the school board that premiums increase by 4% after hearing from the district’s insurance brokers during its March 14 meeting.
