Groups call for better data on race and ethnicity to identify health care gaps

The Office of Management and Budget should upgrade its collection methods as well as broaden its scope to capture more granular data on underserved populations, which would be critical in addressing health disparities, according to the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and the National Minority Quality Forum, reports Fierce Healthcare. The existing policy on how federal agencies gather such information was first introduced by OMB in 1977 and was last revised in 1997 to improve methods for collecting, maintaining and publicizing data on race and ethnicity.
