Strike by German unions paralyses transport system

A strike by Germany’s Verdi and the Eisenbahn- und Verkehrsgewerkschaft EVG unions on March 27 brought the country's public transport system to a standstill and caused severe disruptions with almost 1,200 flights canceled in Frankfurt alone, CNBC reported citing Reuters. Martin Burkert, chairman of EVG, warned further strikes over a pay hike were possible, including over the Easter holiday period in April.
