Meta Platforms Inc. has moved to the high court to overturn a €265 million ($285.6 million) fine that was imposed by Ireland’s Data Protection Commission in November 2022 for its failure to prevent hackers from stealing the personal information of over 500 million Facebook users, BreakingNews.ie reported. Meta considers this decision invalid and claims that a fine of this magnitude is equivalent to a sanction so severe as to be criminal in nature. The total amount of penalties imposed on Meta by the commission have topped €1 billion.
