COVID-19

A Missouri state court has reportedly given its preliminary approval to an $800,000 class-action settlement in a COVID-19 business interruption case filed in 2020.

Scott Craven DDS PC and Met Building LLC v. Cameron Mutual Insurance Co. was filed as a putative class action in U.S. District Court in Jefferson  City, Missouri in August, 2020, according to the complaint.

It charged that the Cameron, Missouri-based insurer denied Kansas City, Missouri-based dentist Dr. Scott Craven COVID-19 related business interruption coverage under his all-risk commercial property insurance policy.

The case was temporarily moved to U.S. District Court in Jefferson City, Missouri, before being moved back to state court.

The $800,000 settlement, which was reported by the Top Class Actions website, was reached on behalf of class members for lost business income and extra expenses that were incurred because of the pandemic between March 2020 and March 2021.

Court approval of a final settlement is scheduled for April 12.

Attorneys in the case did not respond to requests for comment.
