Natural disasters cause nearly $224 billion economic loss in 2022

Data from the Emergency Event Database, maintained by Belgium-based Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters, showed that an estimated 387 natural hazards and disasters caused global economic losses of around $223.8 billion in 2022, Dawn.com reported. Losses from floods in Nigeria amounted to $4.2 billion, while Pakistan floods caused economic damage of $15 billion and drought events in China caused a damage of around $7.6 billion.
