Major ransomware attack hits nearly 5,000 companies

A major ransomware attack has hit nearly 5,000 companies across Europe and the U.S. using the ESXi servers from cloud software group VMware, Inc., Information Age reported citing Financial Times. The attack, which exploits a vulnerability in a piece of code supplied by VMware, resulted in 2,000 ransomware demands on French firms. Cyber risk analytics expert CyberCube said that up to 70,000 outdated VMware ESXi servers could be a part of this ransomware campaign.
