Copper mines hit hard by protests and blockades

Posted On: Feb. 17, 2023 9:39 AM CST

Violent protests and blockades in Peru are continuing to hamper operations at leading copper mines, with Glencore PLC's Antapaccay and MMG Ltd.’s Las Bambas most affected, U.S. News reported citing Reuters. A shortage of supplies required for mining operations has forced the mines to enter into care and maintenance mode. The protesters also attacked and vandalized five fuel trucks of Antapaccay while they were en route to the mine.
