New Zealand declares emergency after devastating floods

The government of New Zealand has declared a national state of emergency after Cyclone Gabrielle battered the North Island with devastating floods, causing hundreds of flight cancellations and power outages, Hindustan Times reported. The national state of emergency is only the third in New Zealand’s history following the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes and the COVID-19 outbreak.
