arranged marriage

An Indian man tasked with seeking a husband for his daughter received a call from an insurance sales agent with Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Co., an Indian subsidiary of Allianz SE, which the father mistakenly thought was a proposal for an “alliance.”

And so goes a funny arranged-marriage story hitting the Twittersphere just in time for Valentine’s Day.

As shared this month by Twitter user Harsha Ramachandra, who preps followers with the insight that marital arrangements are a cultural norm, the insurance agent was invited to the house as a potential “Dulah,” or groom, much to the excitement of her mother, who had been getting on her father’s case to get their daughter married.

Days later, an “uncle-type guy” arrived for tea. The mix-up didn’t become clear until the agent eventually asked a question about investments, an inquiry that had her father “totally baffled,” and later laughing.
