Turkey asks insurance from tankers carrying petroleum products

Turkey has demanded that tankers carrying petroleum products through its straits must have a valid protection and indemnity insurance cover as of Feb. 6, a day after the European Union embargo on seaborne imports of Russian oil products comes into effect, OilPrice.com reported citing Reuters. Turkey is already demanding proof of P&I cover for crude oil tankers passing through the Turkish straits, which created a massive traffic jam in the narrow straits in December 2022.
