Protests cause $1.3 billion in production, infrastructure damages

Peru's president Dina Boluarte said that recent anti-government protests have caused 2 billion Peruvian soles ($517 million) in damage to production and PEN3 billion in damages to infrastructure, Free Malaysia Today reported. Ms. Boluarte called for a political truce on Jan. 24 as hundreds of protesters again took to the streets of the capital, Lima, and clashes erupted between some people in the crowds and the police.
