Long-COVID brings higher risk of chronic diseases after infection: Study

Patients who experience long COVID-19 are at higher risk for pulmonary, diabetes, neurological and mental health encounters six months after the onset of initial infection, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, reports Becker’s Hospital Review. The increase in the frequency of health care encounters involving post-COVID-19 conditions can "present a major burden to patients and the health care systems that treat them," the researchers wrote. Vaccinated individuals were found to have lower risk for the above factors than unvaccinated, the research also found.
