Retired Metro Nashville employees and first responders over the age of 65 on Jan. 1 were to a new insurance carrier, Humana Inc., a change that could see some of the retirees losing access to doctors been seeing for years, reports WKRN. In 2021, Metro Council voted to move retired city employees to the new plan effective at the start of 2023, but because of a dispute between Humana and Vanderbilt Medical Center, the former firefighters, teachers and police officers’ insurance will no longer be accepted at the hospital at lower, in-network rates.
