One could not be faulted for thinking that if there’s one dog in the world who needs insurance, it’s Charlie Brown’s dog Snoopy.

The cartoon canine is coming onboard at MetLife Pet Insurance to help “build greater awareness of the critical importance of pet health insurance,” the insurer said in a statement.

Indeed, perhaps no one knows this better than Snoopy himself, who is said to have both a pool table and a Van Gogh in his doghouse.

MetLife says that although there are more than 90 million families with pets in the U.S. today, less than 3% of those pets are insured. The insurer added that 84% of pet parents reported increased pet care costs in 2022, and another 50% were concerned rising costs will prevent them from being able to be a pet parent in the future. MetLife entered the pet insurance category in 2020, the statement said.

This is not the first collaboration between the cartoon dog and the insurer, who “had a more than 30-year partnership through 2016,” MetLife said.
