Record levels of snow disrupts transportation in Japan

The Japan Meteorological Agency said that record levels of snow has hit Niigata, southern Tohoku Prefecture and other areas north of Tokyo, disrupting transportation and causing power outages, New Straits Times reports citing Xinhua. Some train services were suspended and around 800 vehicles were stranded on highways in Niigata's Kashiwazaki on Dec. 20 as the amount of snowfall had reached three times the seasonal average in some areas.
