Cotopaxi volcano ash blankets Ecuador capital

The Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador spewed a column of gases and ashes on Dec. 20, blanketing several areas of capital city Quito in ash, Reuters reported. The Ecuadorean Geophysical Institute said that the volcano resumed its eruptive activity in late October and the ash cloud now reached up to 1,100 meters above the volcano's crater level and it moved to several points south of Quito due to wind.
