Lower discount rate contributes to dip in pension funding: Report

For the month of November, pension funding ratios declined by 1.4 percentage points from 105.5% to 104.1%, while assets increased by 5.1% and liabilities increased by 6.5%, according to Insight Investment, reports Plansponsor. During November, the average discount rate fell by 55 basis points to 5.05% in November from 5.61% in October. For the year to date, increases in pension discount rates have helped the funded status of pension plans.
