New rule protects consumers who rely on incorrect insurer network directories

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a new regulation aimed at protecting consumers from "unfair, surprise costs" when they rely on incorrect information in an insurer's health care provider directory, reports Becker’s Payer Issues. Under the regulation, patients who use providers they believe are in-network based on misinformation provided by their health insurers will not pay more than their in-network cost-sharing, according to a Dec. 7 news release from the governor's office.
