CMS proposes mandated use of electronic prior authorization

The Biden administration released a proposal which, if finalized, would require Medicare Advantage, Medicaid managed care, Affordable Care Act plans and state Medicaid agencies to implement electronic prior authorization systems by 2026, reports Fierce Healthcare. The proposed rule, released Dec. 6 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, would require payers and states to streamline prior authorization processes and improve the electronic exchange of health data.
