Health insurers say that prior authorization reforms make programs worse: Poll

Several states have implemented prior authorization reforms this year, but three out of four health insurers say state regulations make programs worse, according to a Nov. 14 Americas Health Insurance Plans survey, reports Becker’s Payer Issues. The health insurer trade group conducted a survey and found 76% of respondents said state regulations had negatively affected prior authorization programs. Michigan, Texas and Pennsylvania have passed laws or implemented rules this year reforming the prior authorization regulations.
