European reinsurers' earnings fall in first nine months: Fitch

Fitch Ratings Inc. said that the earnings of Europe’s four main reinsurers Munich Reinsurance Co., Swiss Reinsurance Co., Hannover Re SE and Scor SE fell in the first nine months versus 2021 due to higher natural catastrophe losses, weaker investment returns, and reserve strengthening, Reinsurance News reported. The reinsurers, however, showed double-digit premium growth in property and casualty reinsurance on the back of rising prices, rising demand and an increased risk appetite.
