Wisconsin school district moves to self-insure benefits

The Ripon, Wisconsin, Area School District has approved a plan to move to a self-funded health insurance plan and open an employee medical clinic for 2023, the Ripon Press reports. RASD currently spends about 10% of its budget on medical insurance premiums, the report says. RASD staff currently is insured for medical and pharmacy benefits through WEA Trust, which it switched to in the 2019-20 school year for a 6.3% premium reduction, the report says. Since then, premiums grew 10.5% in 2020-21, 9.8% in 2021-22, and 3.6% for the first part of 2022-23.
