Elevance says it is largest U.S. insurer, but analysts disagree

Elevance Health says it has become the largest insurer in the United States, covering more people than UnitedHealthcare, yet some analysts contend the title depends on how enrollees are counted, Healthcare Dive reports. Elevance Health ended the third quarter with 47.2 million members, including BlueCard members, while UnitedHealthcare covered 45.9 million people in the United States. Elevance’s BlueCard system allows members of one Blue Cross Blue Shield plan access to provider networks of BCBS plans in other states.
