Prolonged Ukraine war will complicate aviation insurance claims settlements

Credit rating agency DBRS Morningstar said that the possibility of a a protracted Russia-Ukraine war will further complicate the settlement of insurance claims relating to jets stuck in Russia, Reinsurance News reported. The sanctions imposed by Russia and Western nations on each other have trapped up to $15 billion worth of aviation assets in Russia, triggering war risk insurance policies and maybe certain primary policies. Additionally, the complexity of insurance and reinsurance arrangements could lead to long arbitration and legal procedures.
