Post-Tropical Cyclone Fiona battered eastern Canada on Sept. 24, unleashing powerful winds that caused widespread power and telecommunications outages as well as property and infrastructure damage, Reuters reported citing the CBC. The town of Channel-Port aux Basques in Newfoundland declared a state of emergency due to severe floods and destruction.
