Lack of insurance ranked after fear and apathy as a reason people avoid the dentist, according to a new survey from invisible aligners company Byte.com, as reported by USA Today.

Nearly one in three Americans haven’t been to the dentist since before the COVID-19 pandemic began, according to the article.

Even before the pandemic provided people with a solid reason – fear of getting COVID-19, for example – to avoid the dentist, some Americans delayed care “for years.” Mostly because of fear, according to USA Today.

Overall, 59% said dental care is too expensive, 44% said they just don’t want to go, 39% worried about needing a procedure and 34% said not having dental insurance has kept them away.
