Judge to Peloton: Not so fast

A federal judge says Peloton must face the music regarding a lawsuit filed against the exercise bike and treadmill company after users sued following the company’s purge of more than 12,000 on-demand fitness classes.

Thursday’s ruling gives the green light to a lawsuit accusing the company of misleading customers about the “ever-growing” size of its library of on-demand fitness classes and continued to charge them full price for access, according to Reuters.

This lawsuit stemmed from Peloton’s March 2019 decision to purge more than half of its estimated 12,000 on-demand classes, after music publishers sued the New York-based company for streaming songs in its workout videos without proper licensing, according to the wire service.

In a 40-page decision, a U.S. District judge in Manhattan said customers in New York from April 2018 to March 2019 could try to prove they overpaid because Peloton was silent about the “imminent” removal of much of its digital library, Reuters reported.
