Axa XL hires US property reinsurance exec from Allianz

Axa XL Reinsurance, the reinsurance business of Axa XL, a division of Axa SA, on Thursday named former Allianz executive Peter Kiernan head of U.S. property, Bermuda reinsurance, effective July 1, 2022.

Mr. Kiernan was most recently head of North American reinsurance for Allianz Risk Transfer, Bermuda, part of Germany’s Allianz SE.

Mr. Kiernan will be responsible for the U.S. property strategy and execution of business underwritten through Axa XL’s reinsurance Bermuda operations, a statement said.

Based in Bermuda, he succeeds Simon Penney, who is relocating to London to take up a new global role as head of underwriting analytics. He will be responsible for pricing standards, in-house views of risk, and portfolio management across the reinsurance segment and report to Jonathan Gale, chief underwriting officer, reinsurance and acting CEO Bermuda reinsurance.
