Germany watchdog raids Kia, Hyundai offices in defeat device probe

The Frankfurt state prosecutor's office searched eight sites of South Korean carmakers Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. in Germany and Luxembourg over allegations that the companies sold more than 210,000 diesel vehicles fitted with illegal emission defeat devices, Reuters reported. An industry analyst warned that the investigation could be expanded or lead to punitive damages.
