BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

David H. Long will retire as CEO of Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. at the end of 2022 and will be succeeded by longtime Liberty Mutual executive Timothy M. Sweeney, the insurer announced Thursday.

Mr. Long, who is 61 and has worked at the Boston-based insurer for 37 years, was named president in 2010, CEO in 2011 and chairman in 2013.

Under his leadership, Liberty Mutual significantly expanded its international and specialty business, including through the 2017 purchase of Ironshore Inc.

He will become executive chairman of the company’s board of directors, a Liberty Mutual statement said.

Mr. Sweeney joined Liberty Mutual in 1993 as director corporate strategy and has held progressively more senior roles, largely in its personal lines and small commercial segments. He was named president of the insurer last year.

He will be the 10th CEO in the company’s 110-year history.
