MS Amlin narrows underwriting loss, nat cat losses stay high

U.K.-based insurer and reinsurer MS Amlin Ltd. posted an underwriting loss of £197 million ($246 million) in 2021, primarily driven by £296 million in natural catastrophe losses resulting from European floods, Hurricane Ida and the North American cold wave, Reinsurance News reported. Although still unprofitable, the underwriting result reflects improvement from the previous year when MS Amlin’s underwriting losses were pegged at £277 million.
