Supply chain woes deepen as major quake halts production

The large 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Japan’s Fukushima prefecture on March 16 led to production halts at a number of factories such as chipmaker Renesas Electronics Corp. and Sony Group Corp. on March 17, complicating already severe supply chain disruptions, Reuters reported. Renesas and Sony suspended production at three of their plants each, while ceramic capacitor supplier Murata Manufacturing Co. Ltd. halted four factories after the quake.
